Furlough Days Update

On Tuesday evening the Lane ESD Board voted to furlough employees for the rest of the school year. On Wednesday, Lane ESD and LCEA leadership signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) to reduce the number of work days through the end of June.

On Wednesday afternoon Superintendent Tony Scurto sent an email to all staff describing the furlough day schedule and status of the application to the Work Share Program. For those details, check your work email and look for Tony’s message.

Lane ESD employees continue to be expected to check their work email as part of their regular work day, but this will be even more important as we receive instructions on applying for Work Share benefits, as receiving those benefits also requires action from each of us, individually. However, both Lane ESD and LCEA leadership have committed to facilitating this process for employees, as much as possible.

As always, thank you for all that you do and are doing. We realize a stressful time has been made even more so with concerns about the budget and furlough days that are quickly becoming the norm in districts across the county. Please be sure to take care of yourselves and reach out to us if you have questions or concerns.

UPDATE: Clarified language about checking work email to be part of an employee’s regular work day, as employees will not be expected to check work email on a furlough day. Presumably, any critical information from Lane ESD administration will not be sent out when employees will not be on duty to read or act on it.
